Dear Members, Dear Partners, Dear Friends,
I am still very proud on our fantastic General Assembly in Antwerp this May and feel extremely honoured to be re-appointed as EL President for the period 2019-2021. Together with the newly elected Executive Committee and the EL team, I will not just continue my work but set new targets to manage the tasks ahead.
With a recently elected European Parliament and a new European Commission taking office on 1 November, the next months are set to be fruitful! EL will closely monitor the agenda of these Institutions to be in the forefront to discuss and defend the EL lottery model. I personally had already in September the pleasure to present at the Sport Unit breakfast at DG Education, Youth, Sport and Culture of the European Commission on the topic “Are lotteries supporting sport or using it?”. In addition to that, EL was again an official partner of the European Week of Sport and on 1 September the UN Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions (Macolin Convention) historically entered into force.
Beside this, EL already started to set some new points and focuses in our agenda. To mention just three points: First: The work on the Antwerp-Resolution on responsible advertising will go on; Second: Within its initial meeting, the new Executive Committee decided to strengthen its activities against illegal offers through building a new taskforce. And third: We decided to increase our ability to deliver relevant aggregated data to all kind of stakeholders through changing the model of data collection and research. We will keep you informed on those topics.
Last but not least, the Association will also be busy with several upcoming EL seminars on Security and Integrity, Innovation, Sports Betting and Legal & Regulatory Affairs. After already finishing the second edition of EL’s Corporate University Induction Module in Lausanne and our EL/WLA CSR-Responsible Gaming Seminar in Dubrovnik, kindly hosted by Hrvatska Lutrija d.o.o., these events will be further fantastic opportunities to meet and share experiences.
