Dear Members, Dear Partners, Dear Friends,
As another year slowly comes to an end, we naturally start looking back to assess what we have accomplished. I am proud to say that looking back at 2017 I see that our Association has gone through significant changes and proved itself in facing and adapting to new challenges. This year we welcomed our new Secretary General Arjan van ‘t Veer. He filled a very important role for EL daily life; above all for implementing our medium/long term objectives. Our General Assembly elected a new Executive Committee and adopted the new EL strategy that outlines the core values of our sector.
In Brussels, the advocacy and legislative monitoring activities remain a key priority for our Association. EL is increasingly recognised as an active and valuable point of reference for the EU Institutions for all the initiatives related to the gambling sector at EU level and in EU Member States. 2018 will be an important year, the last before the new European Elections and EL is ready to launch new initiatives to enhance its visibility and promote the business model and core values we stand for.
This edition of the EL Magazine features on some of the main speakers and their presentations from our EL- seminars during the year and looks ahead at next year’s key events.
The sold-out Innovation workshop held in London in November was once again a great experience to end 2017 as we look to the coming year. The last EL branded event of the year was the Legal Seminar that was hosted in the Belgian Senate. The seminar brought to a close a long series of successful EL events organised all over Europe allowing hundreds of lottery professionals to gather together, listen to inspiring speakers, expand their professional networks and exchange best practices with colleagues. And there is more to come: one of the most anticipated events of next year is in February with the unmissable EL/WLA Marketing Seminar in London. We will challenge you to realise how “The Biggest Trend In Marketing Is SMALL!”. June brings another highlight when EL will welcome you all to beautiful Prague, for the 2018 Industry Days hosted by Sazka.
There is a lot of work behind such events and a lot of challenges in keeping them to the highest standards but I strongly believe that providing such opportunities to our Members is a key part of providing great service and we are committed to deliver new and even better results in 2018.
You will find much more in the various articles that follow, I will take this opportunity here to thank you all for supporting and being part of the EL community. May your holidays be filled with cheer, warm memories and happiness.
