10th European Lotteries Congress ‘The Success of Chance’, Antwerp, 26-29 May 2019

The event of the year will no doubt be the ‘10th European Lotteries Congress’ that will be held in Antwerp from 26-29 May 2019. In addition to a 3-day congress with the theme ‘The Success of Chance’ and a fascinating programme full of international speakers, there will also be a Trade Show with exhibitors from the sector and an opening and closing gala full of surprises.

The Belgian National Lottery will have the honour of organising the ‘10th European Lotteries Congress’ in the Flanders Meeting & Convention Center in the beautiful city of Antwerp (Belgium). Known for its diamonds, its chocolate and so much more, the city will embrace you during this event.

The theme for this special edition is also a very original one ‘The Success of Chance’. Lotteries have been about chance and luck for centuries. We not only create winners, we also help to create new chances and support new opportunities. Chance is a part of Lotteries. Chance is a part of Success. Chance is a part of Life.

When working hard, preparing well, being organised, looking for opportunities, … chance plays an essential role in life. Chance leads to diversity and diversity leads to creativity, innovation and performance. When succeeding, people often tend to deny the importance of chance, coincidence, and luck. In case of misfortune, one counts on understanding, support, and new chances.

During this congress we will discover together how Chance plays an important role in our lives and in the business of Lotteries. Outstanding keynote speakers will guide you through this innovative theme.

The Congress will start on Sunday, 26 May 2019 with a spectacular opening show with a special performance by Shelby Williams, ‘the Biscuit Ballerina’ and the Royal Ballet of Flanders.

On Monday, Brett Hennig (The end of politicians) will be looking at the European elections and he will show how lotteries are being used in politics all across Europe. He will be followed by the international bestselling author, Nassim Nicholas Taleb (The Black Swan), who will focus on the extreme impact of rare and unpredictable outlier events — and the human tendency to find simplistic explanations for these events, retrospectively.

The statement of Caty Assher, that chance leads to diversity and that diversity leads to innovation, will be the topic for an interesting CEO panel in the afternoon.

The second day of the congress will commence with a special performance by mentalist Gili and an interactive elucidation of the work Talent vs Luck: the Role of Randomness in Success and Failure’ by the trio of Messrs. Alessio Emanuele Biondo, Allesandro Pluchino and Andrea Rapisarda. In 2010 they won in the Ig Nobel Prize for management, for demonstrating mathematically that organisations would become more efficient if they promoted people at random.

After the break-out sessions regarding ‘sports betting’, ‘block chain’ and ‘lotteries, responsible gaming and advertising’, the Belgian athlete and one of the most requested international motivational speakers in the world, Marc Herremans, and Prof. Robert H. Frank (Success and Luck, Good fortune and the myth of Meritocracy) will talk about the theme of Happy Accidents’ on Tuesday afternoon. And because the Belgian National Lottery doesn’t do things by half, the spectacular Closing Gala will take place in the largest concert hall in Belgium!

So don’t miss out and secure your place for what promises to be the event of 2019! Please confirm your attendance at the European Lotteries Congress by registering online via the website: https://www.el2019antwerp.be/.

You will also find more details on the venue, trade show, hotels and travel to Antwerp on the website. The hotels and congress venue are located adjacent to the Antwerp Zoo and the Antwerp Central railway station and there are many direct trains into Antwerp from Brussels Airport.

So take a chance, be there and don’t miss out on the spectacular opening show on Sunday, 26 May 2019!
